Does Insurance Cover a Data Breach?

Cyber coverage can help with costs related to a data breach, like:

  • Notifying affected clients
  • Investigation to figure out the cause of the breach
  • Credit monitoring services
  • Ransomware expenses
  • Legal defense and damages if you’re named in a data breach lawsuit
  • Regulatory fines and fees
  • Data recovery and IT support
The Big Takeaway

If you collect client information, you’re legally responsible for keeping it safe. If a data breach happens, you’re also the one responsible for making it right.

You might not think of yourself as an online business, but most pet pros communicate with clients, store records, and manage payments through apps and software every day.  The right coverage for your data risks helps you offer thoughtful, professional care on and offline.

Comparing Employee Dishonesty Coverage & Bonding

PCI’s employee dishonesty coverage is similar to a bond, but there may be some key differences to consider.

Employee dishonesty coverage:

  • Can be purchased in the same transaction
  • Doesn’t run credit checks
  • Provides $10,000 per occurrence and $25,000 aggregate coverage

Bonds may differ from our dishonesty coverage by:

  • Checking your credit during the application process
  • Having a “Conviction Claus;” Often bonds won’t pay on claims unless there is a conviction
  • Many require you to reimbursement the bonding company after a claim is paid
