Almost everyone would like to have a superpower that lets them bypass some of the inconveniences we currently face. Running late for work and the radio is saying traffic is bad? Go ahead and use your super speed to run there instead. Need to make a quick stop to the store but low on gas in the car? Could be a good time to fly.
And while people would like superpowers, they also like to create animal characters that have superpowers. How awesome would it be if your pet dog was actually a hero who saves the world?
This week, Pet Care Insurance looks at 4 superhero animals (and one super “villain”) who work hard to save their cities (or one who just wants to eat).
- Sonic the Hedgehog: Being able to run REALLY fast would be very convenient. Unfortunately, Sonic spends most of his time using his superpower to save the world from Doctor Eggman instead of being able to run to Amy Rose’s house and hang out with her.
- Might Mouse: Basically, take Superman and then make him a mouse. That’s Mighty Mouse. He lives in Mouseville and is constantly having to save the city from – you guessed it – cats! But with super strength, invulnerability, and the ability to fly, he has everything he needs to save the city every time.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: While these turtles don’t actually have superpowers, they are trained as ninjas, which is almost just as good. They are constantly having to save New York City from Shredder and Krang and their minions. But with Splinter (a man who turned into a rat) as their sensei – as well as help from April O’Neil and other friends – they always win in the end.
- Perry the Platypus: Another animal that doesn’t have superpowers (neither does Batman), but that is still a hero in the Tri-State area – at least to those who know of his secret identity. Sure, Dr. Doofenshmirtz isn’t really that tough of a villain, but Perry the Platypus is a multi-tasking lifesaver: He rescues the Tri-State area from the good doctor’s insane schemes and, as a result, usually keeps his owners, boys named Phineas and Ferb, from being “busted” by their older sister who is trying to tattle on them.
- Wile E. Coyote: Admit it, you secretly wanted Wile E. Coyote to catch the roadrunner, at least once. Sometimes it was so hard to watch him come up with a brilliant (and sometimes not so brilliant – I mean, who straps a rocket to their back?) plan to catch the roadrunner only to end up having him fall off a cliff, explode, get smashed, run over, or many other horrible results. That is his superpower, though. No matter what happens, he just doesn’t die – maybe the best superpower of all. In addition, to that superpower, he also has the uncanny ability to freeze his body from falling off a cliff long enough to somehow produce signs out of nowhere that let us know what he’s thinking (usually “Help” or “Why Me?”) before gravity finally catches up with him and he plummets to the ground. Maybe it would have been better for him to just quit while he was not ahead.
